I’m throwing it back to an oldie. This is still, hands down, one of my most favorite newborn sessions I have done. Everything was perfection this day! The light filtering into the rooms, the neutral clothing and décor, a perfect sleeping baby, a cooperative big brother, and beautiful-photogenic parents. Mom supplied a few props she wanted to use, and it was MAGIC!
Lifestyle newborn sessions are on the rise in popularity. A couple of years ago, I made the decision to move to a more natural approach to newborns. I was at a point in my career where I dreaded newborn sessions. I would have anxiety attacks knowing I was going to be traveling to a home, with a trunk full of props that I would have to set up. Not knowing what kind of light was in a home, knowing I would be fighting a tiny baby to sleep and pose. The sessions would take upwards of 4 hours. I noticed it was not only stressful on me, but stressful on the new, tired parents as well. I had another photographer tell me, “If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it!”
I remember being scared to make the change, but lifestyle is what I love, and what I am best at. It was a gamble when it came to bookings and income, but it was a gamble I was willing to take! It paid off in my opinion. These sessions aren’t for everyone, and I get that. However, if you are interested in this, I high recommend it. It is so natural, and relatively stress free. If your sweet new baby wants to be snuggled, then you snuggle. You don’t have to leave your home, siblings are in a comfortable setting, etc. You don’t have to have the perfect house. We can work solely in a nursery. We don’t need to move from room to room. The whole house doesn’t need to be clean (I have 2 kids, I get it). Give it a shot! Everyone who books a lifestyle newborn session, never regrets it!
